How can we make sure that higher education institutions (HEI) curricula are actually preparing undergraduates for the job industry? One way is to have authentic assessments to ensure that universities’ current programmes are capable of equipping students with “Future-Ready” knowledge and competencies. At the 14th CALOHEA National Meeting at Universiti Sains Malaysia, Malaysia, Prof. Dr. Zaleha Abdullah Mahdy, comprehensively explored the role of authentic assessments in preparing industry-ready graduates.

The CALOHEA National Meeting wrapped up its final series at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) on 15-16 November 2023. The spotlight of the event was on Authentic Assessment—an assessment method that tests students' skills and knowledge through practical, real-world experiences, preparing them for success with measures that are relevant to their professional growth. This finale marked not the ending but a transition to the new phase of implementation. With the interest of over 3,000 participants from 250+ universities in 15 Countries throughout its run, the CALOHEA National Meeting has accomplished its goal in paving the way with endless possibilities for the CALOHEA project and its Consortium to pursue academic and learning excellence, mobility, internationalisation, and qualifications transformation with the community at large.

In a dedicated effort to ramp up ASEAN higher education for internationalisation, over 250 participants joined forces with the CALOHEA’s experts in the 13th CALOHEA National Meeting held from 31 October - 1 November 2023 at Souphanouvong University, Lao PDR. The CALOHEA National Meeting and its workshop served as a platform for immersive, hands-on experiences in implementing the CALOHEA’s Recognition Mechanisms, a quality framework and management that would ensure global recognition of ASEAN students’ hard work and learning outcomes.

Over 200 participants gathered to chart Vietnamese higher education’s course to the global stage with CALOHEA’s three Recognition Mechanisms. Now entering its final phase of regional dissemination through the organisation of National Meetings, the CALOHEA Project is continuing strong in its mission to equip ASEAN higher education with a qualification framework and management that is fine-tuned to global comparability and recognition.

The 10th CALOHEA National Meeting, hosted by Ateneo de Manila University, the Philippines on 21-22 September 2023, concluded with a clamoring success. Coinciding with the project’s “CALOHEA Capacity Building: Implementing Student Workload Measurements for More Effective and Holistic Learning Outcomes in the Philippines’ Higher Education”, the impactful national meeting highlighted how CALOHEA’s 3 Recognition Mechanisms can be utilized and introduced to help enhance the Philippines’ higher education mobility and internationalization under the country’s unique context, challenges and potential.

A pivotal element in students' academic journey, without meticulous workload management, students may find themselves burdened with excessive tasks, hindering their deep learning experience, and undermining the academic programmes’s effectiveness. CALOHEA unites students, educators, and industry experts to equip Thai higher education with the tools to optimise learning, ensuring students achieve their highest potential through clear and meaningful workloads, and pave a solid foundation for internationalisation with enhanced credit transfer and ease in programme and degree recognition.
